SHAN STATE – A resident of Maekhaung Ward in Tachileik who was abducted by Tachileik District police for political involvement has been uncontactable for 20 days, according to an acquaintance of the victim’s family.
34 years old Mr. Yaw Han who lives near Bridge No. 2 in Maekhaung Ward was abducted by junta police from his home on October 14.
“After asking around, we found out that he was taken away for political reasons. He cannot be reached since the time of his arrest,” said the acquaintance.
Although there are rumours that Mr. Yaw Han died during the interrogation four days after he was abducted, a family friend shared that the rumours cannot be confirmed as the family has not seen the body.
Mr. Yaw Han was filed under section 505(A) at the Haungleik Region Police Station in Tachileik during February 2021 following the military coup but was arrested three and a half year later.
The junta regime has been abducting people, charged in Tachileik Township during the time of the military coup, now in October, 2024 after more than three years and a Mr. Chit Hmwe was also similarly abducted on October 29, according to people close to his family.
Mr. Chit Hmwe was filed at the Tachileik Police Station in February, 2021 under section 25 of the Natural Disasters Act.
