RAKHINE STATE – Several senior officers including Brigadier General Thurein Tun, the operation commander of Military Operations Command (MOC) 15, who fled from Border Guard Battalion 5 in Maungtaw Township were captured alive by the Arakan Army (AA), according to AA frontline sources.
AA reportedly captured Brigadier General Thurein Tun and junta officers on December 8 evening after clashing against the ARSA forces that came to rescue the junta officers.
“There were two or three senior officers besides Brigadier General Thurein Tun among those captured. They were captured after the battle with ARSA. They were captured alive,” said the AA source.
However, the Arakan Army has yet to issue any official statement regarding the capture of those junta officers.
AA captured Border Guard Battalion 5, the last junta base in Maungtaw Township on December 8 morning and the entire Maungtaw Township is now under the control of AA and rid of junta forces.
