ARAKAN STATE- It was announced that 372 prisoners who were unjustly arrested by the military (coup d’état) council were rescued, reported last Thursday (August 8).
Among the prisoners, there were few who had committed crimes as well as political prisoners who had been arbitrarily arrested and imprisoned by the military council. Those being set free were returned to their families and homes, the Arakan Army stated.
Out of 372 prisoners, (7) were hit by military weapons during the evacuation, five of them died on the spot and the remaining two died of serious injuries while receiving medical treatment, AA announced.
Among those prisoners who were set free, 43 were political prisoners and two lost their lives during the evacuation. Among the remaining 41, seventeen people who were injured or needed urgent medical care were provided assistance.
