MYANMAR – According to local sources, nine civilians were killed when the military junta council launched an airstrike on a refugee camp in Hpruso Township, located near the border between southern Shan State and Karenni State. The airstrike took place yesterday evening.
The attack occurred around 9:30 p.m. on September 5, when the military junta council dropped bombs from a fighter jet on the Bangkok Refugee Camp in the Laei administrative unit area of Hpruso Township. The bombs hit a refugee camp and a school, killing at least nine civilians and injuring many others.
“The plane directly targeted the refugee camp and dropped bombs. Now, we know that nine people, including children and women, have died. They also fired artillery. This area is not a military target; it is a refugee camp. It’s solely a place where civilians are sheltering,” said a local source.
In addition to the airstrike, it was also reported that the military junta council bombed the town of Nan Mae Khon in Demoso Township yesterday morning, where at least two people were killed.
