SHAN STATE-An airstrike by the military junta council on Namkham township in northern Shan State, which is controlled by the TNLA, resulted in the deaths of 11 civilians, including children, a pregnant woman, and entire families, without any prior clashes. Another 12 people were injured, according to a representative from the Ta’ang Women’s Organization (TWO).
The airstrikes took place around 1:30 AM on September 6, targeting the western part of Namkham’s night market and the Kyar Phyu Hall area. It was reported that the bombs killed entire families, including a pregnant woman and a four-year-old child. In total, 11 people died, and 12 others were injured.
“A whole family was wiped out, including a four-year-old child and a pregnant woman. Along with the father, they all died. In total, 11 people were killed, and 12 were injured. Some victims died later in the hospital from serious injuries. The first bomb hit near an electronics shop in the night market, and the second bomb struck near Kyar Phyu Hall,” said the TWO representative.
Those injured by the airstrike were taken to the public hospital by local humanitarian groups, where more deaths were reported. Several houses, electronics shops, and other buildings were also damaged by fire caused by the bombing.
On September 5, around 1 PM, a dark-colored aircraft resembling a civilian plane was seen flying low over Namkham town twice, according to local reports.
“Yesterday, around 1:30 PM, we saw a plane, but we don’t know what type it was. It was dark-colored and looked like a passenger plane but flew very low. Normally, passenger planes fly much higher and leave white trails behind them. But this plane didn’t,” added the TWO representative.
“From what we know, the places they bombed are civilian residential areas, not military targets. All those killed were civilians,” said a member of a local humanitarian organization in Namkham.
Additionally, two civilians were killed by a military junta council airstrike on Nammaekhon township in Demoso Township, Karenni State, yesterday.
