MYANMAR – Mr. Kyaw Moe Tun, the ambassador for Myanmar, questioned at the UN General Assembly how to fight poverty when the junta council has brought nearly half the population under the poverty line in Myanmar.
The Ambassador spoke on October 14 at the second committee of the 79th UNGA that all three main principles of sustainable development were completely ruined during the three years and nine months after the junta regime illegitimately seized power.
In addition, he also questioned how an inclusive, peaceful society can be built when the coup junta council has destroyed the rule of law, democracy and accountability, created situations that allow cross-country crimes and is committing atrocities including war crimes and crimes against humanity on a daily basis.
He stated that it is common knowledge that the underlying cause for human suffering, increased displacements, economic decline, unstable currency and the deterioration of society in the past over three and a half years is the military dictatorship and its dictators.
The Ambassador spoke to the UN States that the people of Myanmar are full of hurt and suffering and that the conflicts will not be brought to an end unless the source, military dictatorship, is eradicated.
As such, the sham election planned by the junta council does not meet the will of the people of Myanmar and will be not be accepted by the people, he added.
He also urged the international community to listen to the voice of the people of Myanmar and strongly reject the sham election of the junta council.
He continued that in order to achieve sustainable peace and stability, the main requirement is for Myanmar to gain back its original development status and that the National Unity Government and the ethnic revolutionary forces are determined on building an all inclusive peaceful and fair federal democratic union.
