BAGO DIVISION – A man with epilepsy who was forcibly conscripted by the junta council in Thekone Township, western Bago Division, has died in detention, according to a resident.
33 year old Mr. Aung Zin Oo from Letpanpinlay Village in Nyaungwin Village Tract, Pateekone, Thekone Township was forcibly taken from his home by junta forces on August 17 night and reportedly passed away in detention.
It is said that his own uncle, the abbot of Waegyi Monastery in Pateekone personally went to the police station on August 18 and asked for his release, explaining that he is suffering from epilepsy but the junta forces did not release him.
“Only in the evening, (the family was) told to come collect the dead body. Even then, the (junta) police told them to say he died at home and not at the police station,” said the resident.
He added that the deceased could have suffered a breakdown from anxiety and fear and passed away after his uncle, the abbot, went back to the monastery after failing to free him.
Another resident informed that the funeral of Mr. Aung Zin Oo was held on August 19 afternoon.
Recently on August 16, junta forces abducted and forcibly conscripted several young people at a ward in Paungde which borders Thekone Township.
