TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Residents reported that around 100 junta forces were spread out in Maungmagan Village, Launglon Township and were inspecting the residents and passersby.
The junta council forces that have been stationed at Maungmagan Police Station and a nearby monastery since August 18 reportedly spread themselves all over the village on August 22 morning.
They then inspected the passersby, going through their items and mobile phones, according to residents.
One resident said that there were junta forces at every street corners. “There were around 100 of them. They check everything if you run into them.”
Some residents of the village are said to have fled the village on August 21 due to the arrival of a large number of junta forces.
“They are going around the village in trucks. They entered the streets and are also going towards the beach in large numbers,” said another resident of Maungmagan Village.
In addition, residents reported hearing gunshots from the south of the village on August 22 afternoon but the details are not yet known.
Those junta forces were also reported to have broken into and stolen valuables from the houses near their station on August 20.
Junta lobby channels, on the other hand, falsely pinned the theft on PDF forces.
It is said that junta forces have also arrived on Tawmoe hill on the Myeik-Dawei Road and the residents of Thabawtseik and Pyingyi Villages had to flee due to their artillery attacks.
A woman and two men from Pyingyi and Maungmagan Villages were injured by shrapnel between August 18 and 21 due to the artillery strikes by junta forces on Tawmoe hill and Launglon based infantry battalion 104.
