SAGAING DIVISION- According to the Kawlin People to People Organization, more than 300 war refugees in the Township were treated to a meal on August 4 by a family from the USA to celebrate their birthday.
Mr. Thu Rain and Mrs. Wutyee from the USA donated 10 lakhs on their son’s Ethan Zhu (aka Kaung Khant Naung) 10th birthday. The total meal cost for more than 300 war refugees that day was over 17 million kyats, according to Mr. The Gyi, the person in charge of the People-to-People Organization.
“After the fights in Kawlin, residents of Kawlin and the villagers of Thanpayar Kone, Min Kone, Phang Khar Kone, and Pante villages have come to flee the war. Currently, there are still soldiers of the military council in those villages, so they dared not return to their homes yet,” said a woman from the Kawlin People-to-People Organization.
“As there are frequent battles around Kawlin Township, the war refugees are unable to return home, so they have to rely on the funds to support their livelihood, and because there are not many local donors, they are looking for donors from foreign,” stated Mr. The Gyi.
When there were no donors, some war refugees picked up and sold cans. Some made bamboo baskets for living, and are facing difficulties in their livelihood. Many refugees’ houses were burned down by the terrorist junta troops.
