KACHIN STATE- Residents said that there had been an explosion at Bhamo Airport, which is used as a support route by the Military Council, on Monday morning (November 26) and flights were temporarily canceled.
“I heard a big explosion. Some said it was a heavy weapon explosion. Some reported there was a bomb explosion in the airport. Not sure of the exact incidence but all the flights had been canceled,” said a resident of Bhamo Township.
Some locals said that the explosion happened around 11:00 a.m. and military council troops and five police cars are patrolling the town.
“We don’t know for sure which group did the explosive attack. KIA has not announced anything yet,” said the news source.
In Momauk Town, about nine miles from Bhamo, the military council and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) troops were in a battle. The military council used Bhamo Airport to conduct airstrikes as well as reinforce the ammunition, food, and manpower, according to a Kachin Military News Source.
The extent of the damage from the explosion is not yet known. Last March 7, 2024, when the KIA launched Operation 0703, a short-range missile hit and exploded at Bhamo Airpost, damaging the runway, and the military council temporarily closed the airport.
