KACHIN STATE- It was reported that the junta troops abducted Ms. Khine Soe Wai, 40 years old, at midnight on Saturday (May 27), and she is currently detained at Shwegu Police Station, as stated by the victim’s relative.
“She is not set free yet. She is currently detained at the Shwegu police station but not in the prison cells. She could stay with the policewomen at their staff housing, just like a house arrest. She is also not physically abused,” said the relative.
Teacher Khin Soe Wai worked at No. 2 Basic Education High School Shwegu as a middle school teacher, but after the coup, she left the job, following the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), and is currently working as an assistant in a medical store.
Excessive junta troops in four saloons and a truck reportedly came into the ward to arrest her.
“The junta troops have been wandering around the town for two nights (on May 27 and 28) until midnight in search of CDMers and pro-Democratic/PDF supporters, but Ms. Khine Soe Wai was the only known detainee. There is no more patrolling tonight (May 29),” said a local woman.
Many education staff have left the workplace and joined CDM since the coup, and the junta council has been using various ways to pressure and oppress them.
Last month, on April 1, a sixty-year-old woman was detained by junta troops for allegedly being a PDF supporter.
