TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Locals reported that the genocidal junta soldiers abducted more than 40 locals of Ka Net Thi Ri Village in Thayetchaung Township and also set fire to the village.
Residents said that the captured Ka Net Thi Ri villagers were being detained as human shields by the murderous junta forces in the monastery of the village where they were stationed.
“I heard that the People’s Defence Forces (PDFs) were blocking their way and they couldn’t get out. That’s why, they arbitrarily abducted the villagers and held them as hostage,” a local said.
There were around 30 junta forces that arrived at Ka Net Thi Ri Village, and they recklessly fired mortar shells in the village on the early morning of June 9.
“They recklessly fired mortar shells into the village from near the signboard,” a local explained the situation in the morning.
That junta column was the same column that left the Win Wa village police station yesterday (June 8) morning, and after they were being attacked between Ka Myaing and Ya Nge villages, they abducted three civilians from Kywe Min Kone Village and marched to Ka Net Thi Ri Village, a seaside village.
On June 9 at around 10:30 a.m., a warship reportedly arrived near Ka Net Thi Ri Village and the terrorist junta soldiers deployed at the village monastery and conducted an ambush patrol in the village.
The arsonist junta forces set fire to houses in the village. It was reported that a granny and a child were trapped in the burned house and burned alive in the fire, but have not been confirmed yet.
“The burned houses were located in front of the Church at the entrance of the village. The arsonist junta soldiers were torching the houses that they thought that the houses’ owners were having contacts with PDFs. Just now, they are attempting to torch the houses in Be Sar Tan,” said a local woman at around 4:30 p.m.
It is reported that some Ka Net Thi Ri villagers have fled to the houses of nearby relatives and farms.
Due to the military situation in Thayetchaung Township, the Thayetchaung PDF has issued a notice not to use the Myeik-Dawei road after 9:00 p.m.
