CANADA- The National Unity Government (NUG) Union Minister for Human Rights, (Mr.) Aung Myo Min, Deputy Minister (Mr.) Aung Kyaw Moe and presidential advisor and spokesperson of the presidential office (Mr.) Kyaw Zaw, reportedly met the Deputy Minister of Global Affairs Canada, Mr. Weldon Epp, and other high-ranking officials on October 27, and Canada’s deputy foreign minister Mr. David Morrison on October 30, respectively.
According to the NUG’s statement, the current situation in Myanmar, the implementation of the ASEAN Five Points Consensus, and the imposition of more effective sanctions against the Terrorist War Council, etc. were discussed during the meetings.
Canada’s Deputy Minister Morrison stated that Canada is a close friend of Myanmar, and is currently working hard on resolving (the political) issue in Myanmar. The Minister stated that they are also exploring ways to help more effectively and want to openly discuss the issues that need to be worked on. The Canadian government is ready to work on the issues that can be done despite the limitations, as reported by the National Unity Government.
NUG also urged to impose more effective sanctions on the military council in addition to the current ones, in a balanced and joint manner between the countries supporting the Myanmar issue. And also asked for technical assistance in the law enforcement and administration sectors. Issues such as the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh, and internally displaced populations are also reportedly discussed.
