SAGAING DIVISION – It has been reported that the junta council troops raided Thayetgaung village and Hpalanchaing village in Htankone region, Kanbalu district, Sagaing division, and set the villages on fire on May 11.
Around 150 junta council troops from Paung Pyin town-based battalion 368 had raided Thayetgaung village at around 6 a.m. and set five houses and two classroom buildings on fire.
“It’s the second time that Thayetgaung village was set on fire. Two classroom buildings were burnt down on April 29. They’re from battalion 368. Only a few villagers have been returning to the village and most are still fleeing in the woods,” said an accountable person of Kyunhla Activist Group.
After committing arson in Thayetgaung village, that junta council column has raided Hpalanchaing village which is more than one mile from Thayetgaung village and committed arson. The exact number of the houses that have been burnt down were unknown as the junta council troops are still in the village.
There are 500 households in Thayetgaung village and around 80 households in Hpalanchaing village. At the present, around 3500 villagers have been forced to flee.
Moreover, that junta council column also burnt down the houses in Thobo village, Kanbalu township, on May 10.
Kyunhla Activist Group issued a statement saying that around twenty thousand civilians from 20 villages have been forced to flee as the junta council raided the villages in Htankone region, Zeetaw region and Karboe region, in Kanbalu district, since the last week of April and until May 11.
