SAGAING DIVISION – Residents said that the local residents from 14 villages, were fleeing in the rain because the military council troops have launched offensives in Kanbalu Township.
On Wednesday (August 30) at about 2:00 a.m., a junta council column with the strength of 150 entered Kanbalu Township. They raided Tharakone Village in Htan Kone Prefecture.
Kyun Hla-Kanbalu Activist Group said “Because of the junta council’s offensive, a total of 14 villages including Tha Yet Khaung, Phalam Chaing, Taung Te Kone, Nyaung Zin Gyi, Koe Myo, Bo Te Kone, Ma Kone and Pay Lae Villages from Htangone Prefecture and Thoe Boe, Gna Ya Me, Min Bar, Let Htote Kone, Yay Gnat Kone and Tha Yet Kan Gyi Villages from Zee Kone Prefecture are fleeing in rain.”
“We heard that some of the villagers were trapped because they (junta forces) came suddenly around 2:00 a.m. They were in a lot of trouble because they had to run away in the rain,” said a resident.
Residents said that junta column was from Light Infantry Battalion 361 and it frequently raided Kanbalu Township and often carried out burning and destroying villages, forcibly looting civilian property, arrests and torture of civilians.”
It has been reported that the people who have fled were in urgent need for shelter, food and medicine.
