SAGAING DIVISION – A male IDP was bitten by snake in Kanbalu Township on June 13, bringing the total number of snakebite cases in Kanbalu to 73, announced Kyunhla Activists Group.
The victim was a 30-year-old man from Koetaungboe Region in Kanbalu Township and he was bitten at around 6:30 p.m. on his way to the farm from his shelter.
“He went to check the field as rain started falling and was bitten in the leg by a viper. We have administered four doses of India made anti-snake venom. It is about 80 percent certain that he will recover,” said Mr. Jaung D On, who has been helping with the medical treatment of IDPs in Koetaungboe.
In Kanbalu Township, a 32-year-old woman on June 1, a 30-year-old man on June 6 and a 28-year-old man on June 8 were all bitten by snake and are now recovering well after receiving treatment.
In addition, five men and three women from Chattin, Zeekone, Koetaungboe, Pinthar and Htangone Regions of Kanbalu Township were also bitten in May and have now recovered.
From 2022 to June 11, 2023, there were a total of snakebite cases and six out of them: 8-year-old Moe Hein from Wattahin Village, 9-year-old Hla Hla Myo from Shawbyugone Village, Mr. Htay Myint (54) and Mr. Ye Lin (27) from Alelkhone Village, Mr. Win Nyunt (61) from Kineyoe Village and Mr. Kyaw Nyunt (53) from Malal Region passed away, stated Kyunhla Activists Group.
