YANGON DIVISION – A resident of North Oakkalarpa Township reported that the military council destroyed the memorial stone of the 8888 uprising in Kanthayar Park.
“Yesterday (March 8), the junta police and soldiers were at the site of destruction. It started at around 11:00 p.m. and finished the next morning (March 9), at around 3:00 a.m. The area was covered in large green screens,” said the resident.
He also said that on March 9 morning, the military council troops were guarding the area and not allowing the public to enter.
“This monument stone is a landmark for North Oakkalar Township. At events held in our township, all the students salute the monument stone at Kanthayar (park),” said a local regarding the destruction of a monument by the military council.
