YANGON DIVISION – It was reported last Sunday (June 11) that three young men returning from work were detained by junta troops in Kamayut Township Ward No. 3, at the intersection of Hledan 7th Street and Htantapin Road.
Lately, the junta soldiers are conducting casual checks in Kamayut Township every day. They are checking passersby’s mobile phones for photos, files, and news pages that usually post about revolutionary news and sometimes extort and arrest them, according to the locals.
“The arrest on June 11 happened around 10 p.m. when the junta troops were checking (a fake) guest list and met the three youths coming back from work. They detained them and asked for five million kyats each to be set free. If the money is not given overnight, we don’t know where the youths would be the next day. So, we have no choice but to pay the junta troops what they asked. I just want everyone to be careful when traveling in Kamayut Township,” said a resident.
Similarly, on June 12 around 8:00 p.m., near the bunker at the intersection of Insein Road and Pyay Road in Ward No. 2 of Kamayut Township, a young man was arrested after his and other passersby’s mobile phones were checked by junta troops.
