YANGON DIVISION – On June 16 at past 10:00 p.m., junta troops entered the apartment at the intersection of Htan Tapin Road and Zeyathiri Road in Ward No. 3, Kamayut Township, Yangon, to check guest registration lists and took away the citizenship scrutinization cards of the young people staying there, reported the residents.
Junta soldiers reportedly came to the apartment in a Double Cab and a saloon car. A local resident said that around ten soldiers and police force came and ran rampant. After checking the guest lists, they confiscated some ID cards and told them to come and pick them up at the township general administration office.
“They intentionally screamed and rampaged, probably to announce their arrival. I heard them yelling for the guest list. When people found out their presence, they became afraid of being photographed, so they walked around and observed the houses on the street. The kids there (referring to the youths living in the apartment) were just ordinary workers, so what can they say? The guys from the general administration office will be profiting off this. Anyone who couldn’t pay will be charged and fined,” said one resident.
An eyewitness said that after the terrorist army targeted the apartment buildings and searched them, at around 11:00 p.m., they left from the side of Htan Tapin Monastery Road towards Hledan Road.
In recent months, locals say that the military is stepping up casual guest lists checks, the checking of pedestrians’ phones, and targeting young people for extortion and arrests in Kamayut Township.
