KARENNI STATE – The Karenni Army (KA) Adjutant General Colonel Bhone Naing stated that the junta council troops murdered three women including a pregnant woman and three children, a total of six displaced people, in Shartaw Township.
KA and KNDF (Karenni Nationalities Defence Force) forces discovered the dead bodies of the three women and three children on February 5 morning and found out that they were abducted and shot dead by a junta column.
The junta infantry 249 base in Mongping sent a reinforcement of 64 soldiers by three helicopters on February 5 and they were intercepted by KA forces. During the attack, junta forces split into two or three groups and those groups ran into displaced people taking shelter in the jungles and abducted three children, three women including a pregnant woman and a man then shot them dead.
“Children and a pregnant woman were shot dead. Some civilians from Shartaw have fled into the jungles and we’re taking shelter near places with a water source. The junta reinforcements came on the 5th. Infantry 249 from Mongping is under the junta council’s East Command. They came in three helicopters so our soldiers went to intercept and attack them. They split into two-three groups when attacked. One of those groups ran into the displaced people and abducted them. There were three children under ten, two or three elders and a pregnant woman. They (junta forces) got into a clash against us and shot those displaced people dead,” explained KA Adjutant General Colonel Bhone Naing.
KNDF Deputy Chief of Staff Marwi also posted on his social media, “How could you do this against these children and the mothers? I’m at a loss for words. Four children (were killed) recently as well. Pray that your children won’t have to face this,” along with photos of the victims.
