MYANMAR – The National Unity Government (NUG) sent a missive for the 86th Karen New Year.
NUG wished for the honour of the Karen people to be raised alongside the formation of the new federal democratic union that has full equal rights and self-determination after fighting together with the revolutionary forces across the country until the fall of the military dictator.
After the junta council staged a coup to steal the power on February 1, 2021, the basic rights of all citizens were destroyed and the junta council used all reasons to block the customs and traditions of the ethnic people from being passed from one generation to the next, mentioned the NUG.
However, after 2023 when the ethnic revolutionary forces all over the country rose up to fiercely fight back against the junta council, there have been loss of morale and strength within the junta forces while the revolutionary forces have achieved victory after victory, informed the NUG.
NUG also wished a pleasant Karen New Year for all citizens of Myanmar and shared their hope for the establishment of a Karen State that has full equal rights and self-determination in the new year.
It was also mentioned that ceremonies are being held yearly in the country and overseas where there is a congregation of Karen people during the New Year to showcase and maintain the traditional customs.
