SAGAING DIVISION- According to Dr Joshua, in charge of People’s Healthcare Network- Kalay, there are cases of pneumonia death among those displaced persons in Kalay Township, due to the change of season.
Around 100 people who fled the war reportedly suffered pneumonia. Among them, a child died in March and an old man died in February.
He said that the old man was a long-term war refugee, and the child was with the recent refugees.
Dr. Joshua said that the 2 victims had to evacuate to safety when their campsite was attacked by a military column, and reached the hospital late.
Pneumonia is an infection and inflammation of the lungs, causing shortness of breath, coughing, dyspnoea, and are often severe, he added.
Those fleeing the war, living in bad weather, poverty, and not eating enough food, are prone to many diseases.
Currently, four elderly people and a new-born child are still being treated at the hospital for pneumonia.
He said that People’s Healthcare Network-Kalay was operated under the guidance of the Ministry of Health of National Unity Government (NUG).
It is reported that those war refugees contracted pneumonia since last January.
