SAGAING DIVISION – Four members of the Kalay (Town) Strike Committee who were detained last month during the “Revolutionary Thingyan Protest” were charged with two years of imprisonment on Tuesday (May 9).
The four members, Mr. Than Soe Oo, Mr. Myo Ko Win, Ms. Hnin San and Ms. Kyein Daek Kim were reportedly charged with two years imprisonment each under section 505(A).
“We don’t know about their conditions yet but since the verdict has been made, they would probably be sent to jail. More than ten people including them were reportedly charged on the same day,” said a local.
The Strike Committee members
were detained on April 16 and the homes of Ms. Hnin San and Ms. Kyein Daek Kim were reportedly bulldozed by the junta forces on April 19.
Six other locals were sentenced on the same day (May 9) by the junta council court. Mr. Kyaw San Lwin and Mr. Chan Ko Aung were each sentenced to five-year imprisonment under section 52(A) and Mr. Min Thu, Mr. Chit San Maung, Mr. Naing Min Htet, and Mr. Nay Htet Lin sentenced to two years each under section 505(A).
It was also reported that four locals of Tharzi Village were detained on May 3 for allegedly having connections with People’s Defence Force members.
