SAGAING DIVISION – The junta troops have been opening heavy artillery fire toward the villages in the Southern part of Kalay Township daily and one more man was killed on Tuesday (June 20) due to blast-related injury, reported the locals.
Around 9 a.m. on June 20, the junta Artillery Battalion 365 and Infantry Battalion 228 reportedly fired five rounds of heavy weaponry, and one fell into Tharzi Village, killing the twenty-three-year-old resident.
“A resident of Tharzi was killed by blast-related injury. The heavy shelling hit the tree in his compound and he received (fatal) shrapnel injury in the chest,” said a resident of Kalay Township.
Another woman from Tharzi Village was reportedly injured but the details of her injury remain unknown.
A child from Tharzi Village was hit and killed by a heavy weapon on June 16, and a man from Htomar Village was killed on June 18 and this recent death of a man from Tharzi Village on June 20 mean that within five days, three locals were killed due to the junta’s heavy shellings and four were seriously injured.
These shellings were carried out by junta Artillery Battalion 365 and IB 228, Regional Command Headquarters based in Kalay Township, and the military checkpoint in Aphwesat Village. Heavy artillery shells were fired every day from these places and within a week from June 14 to 20, at least thirty-seven rounds of shells were reportedly fired.
