SAGAING DIVISION – It is reported that the military council troops stationed in Pyin Htaung Lay Village in Katha Township have now left and are heading to Tigyaing.
The military columns from Katha Township, Sagaing Division, and junta Infantry Battalion 121, based at Ngaoh Village bordering Mabein Township of Shan State, reportedly entered and stationed at Pyin Htaung Lay Village on September 5.
They left the village on September 12 and headed towards the villages of Alal Kyun, Nyaung Ping Kwin, Phone Gone, Seik Ngu, and Marathein, stated a member of the Katha Township People’s Administration Body.
“There are sugar cane fields on that side and it is closer to Tigyaing Town. Locals need to be aware of the current situation,” he warned.
As the convoy left the village of Pyin Htaung Lay, some locals were reportedly arrested along the way as human shields. The number of detainees is not yet known. It was reported that some of the detainees were released on September 13 morning and the column continued to leave for Marathein Village.
The military council column was attacked at least six times by the 3rd Battalion of Katha District and the local People’s Defence Forces on their way. Defence Force comrades said the military council unit burned down more than 20 houses including a rural health clinic while they were stationed in Pyin Daung Lay Village.
When the military council tried to send food and weapons to IB-121 by land during the last week of August, and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and PDF joint forces have been attacking them since August 28.
In the fights from August 28 to 30, at least nine members of the junta council were killed and 15 were injured, according to information from the Katha Township People’s Administration Body.
