SAGAING DIVISION – The junta council checkpoint at the entrance to Kathar was bombed with drones around 6 a.m. on Thursday (August 17) by Kathar People’s Defence Force, resulting in both junta and civilian casualties.
Four grenades were dropped by drones onto the gate where junta soldiers, police and Pyu Saw Htee militia were stationed and the junta forces and nearby pedestrians were caught in the blast, said a local resident.
“The nearby pedestrians were hit. The junta forces at the gate were also hit. The grenade landed directly beside the gate,” said the resident.
He continued that the junta forces conducted strict inspections in the town and the Kathar based junta battalion 309 also recklessly fired heavy artillery after the attack.
A junta propaganda channel on telegram said that Mr. San Win, Mr. Myo Win Thein and Ms. Khin Thandar were injured by shrapnel and sent to Mandalay Hospital.
A junta checkpoint at the entrance to Kathar was previously attacked by ABSDF (All Burma Students Democratic Front) in August 16, 2022.
