MYANMAR – The Ministry of Defence (MoD) under National Unity Government (NUG) has announced on August 4 that it has formed a Complaints Committee and has been investigating the complaints.
It has been reported that the committee has examined and handled the complaints regarding battalions, troops, departments, committees, organizations and individuals under the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in accordance with the authority of the committee and the procedures.
As the Ministry of Defence, the ministry established the “Complaints Committee” with the Decree No. (33/2023) on May 1, in order to protect people’s lives, life and assets from being disturbed and destroyed, and to investigate, examine, hear and identify the conflicts, violence and military crimes during People’s Defensive War and People’s Revolution.
In addition, the committee was formed with the aim of strengthening management and accountability mechanisms of MoD, in order to run judicial processes in accordance with the laws and procedures.
According to the statement, the Complaints Committee is running its process with four sectors in order to bring justice during the period of People’s Defensive War and People’s Revolution, and to make the public believe that justice can be achieved.
The committee accepts and verifies the complaints, makes preliminary investigation of complaints, makes arrangements to coordinate and resolve complaints in a timely manner. It was also said to be working on reporting to the Ministry of Defence so that prohibition orders can be issued.
The committee has been liaising with the relevant ministries, committees and commissions about the complaint’s resolutions, and systematically handing over the cases to the relevant departments, committees, commissions, groups and legal departments with jurisdiction in order for the cases to continue to be heard and tried.
