MYANMAR – According to military sources, terrorist leader Min Aung Hlaing forced the Chief of Defense Staff (Navy) Admiral Moe Aung to retire and replaced him with Chief of General Staff (Navy) Vice Admiral Zwai Win Myint as the Chief of Defense Staff (Navy).
Admiral Mo Aung has been retired as Chief of Defense Staff (Navy) but has been reassigned as National Security Adviser.
“The news came out last year that the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Mo Aung, had stepped down from his position. I don’t know why it stopped, even about issuing orders. Now he has stepped down. He has been retained as National Security Advisor, but that position is nothing compared to the role of Chief of Defense Staff (Navy). It can be said that he was kicked to the side,” said a military source.
In August 2023, the military council ordered Lieutenant General Mo Myint Tun and his associates to raise the dollar price. Some private banks were also called and examined when they took action with bribes. Among them, the military summoned and examined some of the owners and officials of Amara Bank UAB Bank, which is related to Admiral Mo Aung. Because of this news, there were widespread reports that Admiral Mo Aung might be removed from his position.
Admiral Mo Aung is the son of Aung Thaung, the former Minister of Industry, a confidant of the former dictator Than Shwe, and graduated from the Military Academy in batch 28. In 2021, Admiral Mo Aung became the Chief of Defense Staff (Navy). Admiral Mo Aung has two brothers and a sister, Ne Aung, Pyay Aung, and Khin Ngu Yee Phyo, and they own and operate United Amara UAB Bank.
In addition, it has been learned that the terrorist Min Aung Hlaing has shuffled some of the positions of regional commanders and division commanders in the army.
