UNITED NATIONS – It has been reported that Mr. Kyaw Moe Tun, the Permanent Representative of Myanmar to the United Nations, has requested the United Nations (UN) to appoint a special envoy on Myanmar, as soon as possible .
The 78th session of the general assembly was held on February 7. Mr. Kyaw Moe Tun added in the report on the Work of the Organization.
Mr. Kyaw Moe Tun discussed that “It is imperative that the UN plays a more active role in keeping the situation in Myanmar on its agenda. To this end, we call for the urgent and swift appointment of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar.”
Moreover, he also added that more than 4,400 innocent civilians were brutally murdered and more than 25,000 civilians arbitrary abducted by the fascist junta council.
Due to the junta council’s attacks, 2.6 million people have been internally displaced and almost 19 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. Half of the population of Myanmar has been thrown into poverty.
He also added that more than 86,000 civilian properties including religious buildings have been destroyed and burned by the fascist junta council troops.
