SAGAING DIVISION – Due to the battles happening in Kawlin Township, Sagaing Division, more than 40,000 IDPs including trapped travellers need help.
A local said that the number of IDPs is increasing for many reasons and although there was support by NUG, help is still needed, adding that the battles could continue.
Battles broke out starting from March 2 in Khanthar Village of Kawlin Township and there were over 8,600 IDPs from that village, in addition to about 17,600 IDPs fleeing from the battles in Kawlin Town and about 15,000 travellers who were trapped due to the blocking of Shwebo-Myitkyina Road owing to the battle.
It was known that the Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Management (MOHADM) of NUG, the responsible persons of Kawlin Township and locals were helping those over 40,000 IDPs. But support is still needed.
Currently the situation of the battle is intense in Khanthar Village on the Shwebo-Myitkyina Road in Kawlin Township.
The People’s Defence Forces (PDF) blocked and attacked the junta column that entered Khanthar Village, to the east of Thitphula pagoda hill, the territory of No.1 battalion of Kawlin Township on March 2.
It has been reported that the battle has been intense on the date of report (March 3) and the junta council used airstrikes.
PDF (Kawlin Township) released that the eastern part of the main school building and one civilian house inside the village were destroyed and two PDF comrades received light injuries due to the junta airstrikes.
