KAREN STATE – The junta council has, in recent days, started sending reinforcements to Kawkareik where the military tension has been high for over two months, according to local news sources.
It is said that around ten junta vehicles carrying an estimated 200 soldiers were seen heading towards Kawkareik along the Inddu-Thamanya-Kyondoe Road from Mawlamyaing, Mon State on February 7.
The information officer of Albino Tiger Column that is taking part in battle at Kawkareik under the National Unity Government (NUG) Ministry of Defence remarked that the junta council is sending reinforcements to avoid losing Kawkareik.
The junta reinforcement convoy got into a clash against the Karen National Union (KNU) joint forces between Kyondoe and Kawkareik on February 7 evening.
KNU and joint forces launched an attack on Kawkareik that is located on the Thai-Myanmar border trade Asia Highway on December 1 last year and there have been battles breaking out almost everyday since.
In over two months, the revolutionary forces managed to seize control of a majority of Kawkareik City as well as the Asia Highway.
Tens of thousands of Kawkareik residents have been displaced by the battles and the Asia Highway has also been closed since the battles started.
