KAREN STATE – Karen National Union (KNU) led joint forces attacked the junta’s Yin Kwe Taung base on the northern part of Kawkareik Township, on the morning of March 23, according to the military source.
The source said that Yin Kwe Taung base is located 10 miles away from Kawkareik Town and is also a camp with a few numbers of the terrorist junta forces.
The camp is also based in Nabu Town, KNU’s Brigade-7 operations area.
The residents of villages such as Mya Pa Taking and Ko Baing, near Yin Kwe Taung, have been forced to flee due to the fights on the morning of March 23.
“There were shootings at Yin Kwe Taung. The junta’s aircraft also was hovering around there, it was very loud,” said a local.
KNU-led joint forces carried out offensive attacks to the junta bases in and outside of Kawkareik Town, to seize the Kawkareik Township on Thai – Myanmar border trade and Asia Highway, since the beginning of December 2023.
The junta’s 12th Military Operations Command (MOC-12), combat division, is based in Kawkareik Township.
