KAREN STATE – The Kawkareik-Myawaddy section of the Asia Highway near Yinkhwe Mountain and Tawnaw Waterfall collapsed due to continuous rain, said local residents.
“The road collapsed just past Yinkhwe Mountain due to mountain creek water. The route has been completely cut off. There is also flooding at Myaynigone at the entrance of Myawaddy. Cars can no longer pass,” said a Myawaddy resident.
Some residents are of the opinion that the destruction of the highway is difficult of repair and the transportation could be cut off for months.
A passenger bus driver running between Yangon and Myawaddy commented, “The destruction is not limited only to Yinkhwe Mountain. I also heard there are other sections of the road that were destroyed. The condition is pretty bad.”
