TANINTHARYI DIVISION – According to the locals, the junta council has also banned riding motorcycles with a basket attached which the locals mainly used for transportation, in Kan Pauk Region, Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Division, on May 11, after they banned motorcycles.
A Kan Pauk local mentioned, “Since May 10, we have heard the rumours that the junta council will ban the basket-attached motorcycles. On May 11, the junta council stooges came and announced by loudspeakers that they don’t allow the basket-attached motorcycles and they will take action if they find anyone riding one.”
Due to those kinds of restrictions, the local residents and vendors are facing difficulties in transportation again.
A vendor said, “I mainly rely on the basket-attached motorcycles to go to the market early in the morning. Now, they banned the use of this kind of motorcycle. So, I cannot do anything except to stop the vending business. If I don’t wanna stop the business, I have to buy a side trailer for my motorcycle. It will cost about four or five lakhs to buy one. It’s not easy for us to use that much money.”
After three men including the junta council appointed ward administrative officer were shot dead in Kan Pauk Region, on January 25, Mawrawaddy Navy banned motorcycles in Kan Pauk Region and the locals had to rely on the basket-attached motorcycles and the motorcycles with sidecar.
Kan Pauk Region is a place where the Mawrawaddy naval headquarter is located and is also a place where the locals demonstrate against the junta council with non-violent public strike methods for almost 170 consecutive days. Since the start of 2023, the junta council had set more restrictions, said the locals.
The junta council has banned two men riding on one motorcycle at most of the villages in Dawei District where the members of Pyu Saw Htee and the junta council stooges were shot dead.
