MON STATE – The gun and mortar fire from a convoy of the terrorist junta council in Kyaikhto Township had killed a student in fifth grade and injured two residents, announced Karen National Union (KNU) Central on December 30 night.
On December 24 around 10 a.m. in Kyaikhto Township, Brigade 1 Duthahtu District, KNU Kawthoolei Administrative Region, the terrorist junta convoy travelling to Kyaikhto from Thaton intentionally targeted the civilian zones with small and heavy weapons. As a result, a 14 year old fifth grade student from Winpyan Village, Chaungpyant Area was shot in the neck and died on the spot. In addition, two residents from Thapyayni Village, Ahloo Area were injured by mortar shrapnel and a shop house in Thapyayni Village was destroyed by a mortar shell explosion, costing the owner a loss of over 30 lakhs Kyats.
The coup council forces reportedly often fire heavy artillery into the civilian zones in Ahloo Area, Kyaikhto Township, causing damages to local businesses, farm animals, houses and religious buildings.
The parents of the fifth grade student who was killed by junta gunfire are said to be workers at a plywood factory and the student was said to be helping her parents in the fields when she was shot in the neck by the indiscriminate gunfire of the junta forces and died on the spot.
