MON STATE – A resident reported to the media that after a group of a top military leader and guests from Thailand trampled upon dog poop on the square of Kyaiktiyo Pagoda last Friday (October 13), the officials ordered to poison the stray dogs around the area.
According to the eyewitnesses, the municipal employees of the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda area added poison to the dog food to kill the stray dogs and more than 200 dogs were killed after their third time poisoning on October 18.
“One time of feeding poisoned dog food kills more than 70 dogs. Today, they fed them for the third time. Their groups are on the mountain late at night and leave poisoned food in the square area. Some shopkeepers nearby keep some dogs out of pity and they luckily survive. Even then, some dogs ate the leftover poisoned food and were killed,” said a local.
Locals stated that the poisoning and killing of stray dogs were direct orders by military officials to the municipality department after their top leader stepped on the excrement.
It is not yet known who exactly is the top military leader that stepped on dog feces.
It is reported that there were some damage to the mountain road to Kyaiktiyo Pagoda on October 7 due to heavy rain and the number of visitors is still low.
