RAKHINE STATE – Residents reported that they want to repair the houses at Tinma Village in Kyauktaw Township that were destroyed by Cyclone Mocha but couldn’t do so due to the junta council troops stationed there.
Over 800 households were forced to flee their homes and take shelter at IDP camps due to battles between the Arakan Army (AA) and the junta council troops back in 2020 and the houses destroyed by the cyclone haven’t been allowed to be repaired even now.
Ven. Wayameinda, the monk of Tinma, said that they had to submit applications to the state government in order to repair the numerous houses as well as the monastery with 130 years of history in Tinma Village that were destroyed by Cyclone Mocha on May 14.
A resident of Tinma Village said, “Because junta troops are stationed inside the village and in the surroundings, we dare not return home. We would like everyone’s help so that we can repair the destroyed houses in our village.”
Locals added that junta forces are also still stationed on top of Taungshay Hill near Tinma Village.
