BAGO DIVISION – The locals said that junta forces set fire to 21 civilian houses in addition to many barns in Nanza Village at the eastern part of Kyauktakhar Township, Bago Division on Thursday (July 20) at about 6:30 a.m.
A villager of Nanza Village who didn’t want to be named said that after they heard gunshots around Wednesday midnight for around an hour junta forces invaded Nanza Village on Thursday morning and then torched and destroyed civilian houses and barns.
There was said to be a battle between junta and local revolutionary forces that lasted for an hour because of the junta forces invading on Wednesday midnight and because of that battle, villagers absconded at night. While the village was deserted, junta forces set it on fire.
A person helping displaced people said that the villagers fled overnight because there was a battle at 12 a.m. in Nanza Village and junta forces fired heavy and small weapons. The villagers however couldn’t arrived to the town and they slept in huts in the fields.
It has been reported from the local sources that 150 junta soldiers of Painzalote based infantry battalion 264, Paenwekoneshwewar light infantry battalion 307, and Phyu based light infantry battalion 308 invaded Nanza Village in eastern part of Kyauktakhar Township, Naunglaypin District, KNU controlled territory and they opened fire, destroyed civilian houses and also robbed money and other valuables.
It has been reported from the helpers of displaced people that there are 4,572 villagers who absconded from 37 villages because they are frightened of junta blasting heavy weapons all day and night into the villages of Kyauktakhar Township.
