TANINTHAYI DIVISION – Residents said that the People’s Defense Forces attacked the military council army and Pyu Saw Hti joint camp in Kyaukni Maw village in lower part of Launglon Township on October 4 morning.
The area where the attack took place was a camp with more than 20 junta forces stationed at an old factory in Kyaukni Maw village. According to the locals, the battle lasted for more than three hours from 5:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
“The camp was surrounded and raided at once. It wasn’t just shooting from a distance. The battle was very fierce,” said a local man from Kyaukni Maw.
The locals also said at around 8 a.m. when the battle was going on, a naval warship from the Junta Council arrived and supported by shooting with machine guns and heavy weapons.
People close to the People’s Defense Forces said that there were also dead and wounded on the side of the Junta Council and Pyu Saw Hti, but the details could not be confirmed yet.
Both sides exchanged fire with heavy weapons and small arms. It was unclear whether the soldiers of the military council and Pyu Saw Hti had deserted the camp they were stationed. It also could not be confirmed whether PDF seized the camp or not and the name of PDF group.
Due to the fighting, local residents hid in their homes and fled nearby, but there were no reports of any civilian casualties, the resident said.
Kyaukni Maw Pyu Saw Hti Camp is on the road leading to Myat Shin Maw Pagoda, which is famous in Dawei area, where the Military Council Army and Pyu Saw Hti are checking the civilians.
The military council boats and ships that came to the lower part of Launglon by sea are also moored near the camp and patrolling the township.
