SAGAING DIVISION – Junta soldiers and junta-backed Pyu Saw Htee militia invaded Kyartakan Village in Kyunhla Township, Kanbalu District on Monday morning (August 7) and set it on fire, reported the locals.
Around 100 junta nd Pyu Saw Htee forces from Kyunhla Town are said to have raided and torched the village at around 6 a.m.
“We heard there was an incident of friendly fire between Pyu Saw Htee thugs in Kyunhla around two days ago. One Pyu thug involved in that incident reportedly fled towards Kyartakan Village which is probably why they came to the village and set it on fire. That runaway Pyu thug is also said to have brought with him a carbine rifle and some sub machine gun ammunition. We heard that over 40 houses in Kyartakan Village have been burned down so far,” said a Kyunhla resident.
This is the second time junta forces set fire to Kyartakan Village, with over 100 houses and a population of around 600, located around a mile away from Kyunhla Town. The first junta arson of the village on February 12 destroyed 28 houses.
It is said that junta forces and their subordinate militia are still inside the village while the residents have fled the village. The details of damages from the arson are still not known.
Residents of nearby Htanbingone Village are also said to be fleeing due to the junta arson at Kyartakan Village.
