NORTHERN SHAN STATE – It is reported that Kachin Independence Army (KIA) attacked the military strategy battalion of the junta’s council in Kutkai on June 11 around 8:30 p.m., and a battle lasted for about 20 minutes.
A resident said that the 45th and 241st Battalions of junta’s council troops were stationed in this military strategy, and they exchanged fire with heavy and small arms in the battle. “At around 8:30 p.m., yes. I heard that the other side had fired first, and the military council fired back. It lasted about 20 minutes. They were firing back and forth with heavy weapons and small weapons. The strategic side of the junta council fired back with heavy weapons and small weapons. We don’t know the casualties of both sides,” the resident said.
A news source also said that skirmishes between the two sides are taking place almost every day and night in northern Shan State. On June 11 in Lashio Township, near the village of Manban, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) Kokang forces and the military council forces fought fiercely, and the villagers had to flee to the Catholic church in Lashio.
As a result of this battle, a civilian woman, Ms. Maroun, aged 40, died and a 14-year-old teenager was injured. During this month of June, sporadic fighting has been going on day and night in some townships in the northern part of Shan State.
