SAGAING DIVISION- The military council arrested nearly 30 people in Khin Oo Township, according to local news sources.
On January 3 at about 9:00 a.m., a 100-strong military council column from Ye-U Township marched towards the villages on the west side of Khin Oo Township, without opening fire and making an obvious sound.
As a result, about thirty residents of In Taing (North) and Myin Daung Villages along the Ye U-Khin Oo road suddenly were arrested unexpectedly, said an official of Khin Oo Township’s True News Team.
The detainees include elderly persons, women, and children as well as those working on the farms, according to locals.
“The arrestees were taken to the Myin Daung Monastery. The military soldiers did not make any sound when they enter the town. The locals thought that the soldiers retreated to Ye-U Town and thus they had been working on their routines. When the military column suddenly entered the town, some people got arrested,” said the official.
The junta column is still in Myin Daung village monastery and some houses in the village until January 3 night. Khin Oo Township’s True News Team said that thousands of locals have fled from villages such as Makyioak, Thayetpinsu, Yartaw, Carseik and Intaing (North), and Myin Daung, and are having trouble getting warm clothes and food.
The junta column had raided and burned down a small PDF camp in Ye U Township the previous morning, and the local PDFs surrounded and defended against the column. After that, the junta column continued to advance towards Khin Oo Township.
