SAGAING DIVISION – Around 100 junta soldiers were killed and 39 guns and military equipment were seized during the clashes that took place in May near the villages of Khanti District and Mawlai District, according to the announcement of No.1 Military Region on June 7.
Since the first week of May, there were clashes between the junta council and the PDF at the villages of Hlwasinkone, Payit, Phanine, Mokekali, Thargaungngaw, Myinthar, Ngoepin, Zeepinthar, Maezali, Yaele and Tilong from Homalin Township, Khanti District and Yonghee, East Khamine, Thetkaekyin, Sawchaung, Bagantaung, Harpar, Nyaungkone, Chaungkhwa, Maezali, Khonethar, Nanpan, Innwine, Mawlaikone, Shwehteekone and Satesar Villages in Phaungpyin Township of Mawlai District.
“Four junta-backed militia camps were seized in Saechaung, Hapar, Satesar, Nyaungkone on May 10 and 11. There were a lot of casulities including the platoon commander at Saechaung and Hapar. The junta council thugs ran away,” said an on ground comrade on May 13.
During the battle, around 100 members of the junta council were killed and 32 bodies were recovered while 39 guns, 7,572 bullets of various types, more than 30 grenades, jammers and military equipment were seized, he added.
Khanti District and Mawlai District special operation battalions and the relevant PDF groups jointly conducted the operation, and 29 defence force members fell and several were injured during those battles.
During the battles, the junta council carried out several airstrikes, and also raided the village of Inwine and killed six civilians including a 13-year-old child on May 17.
Some clashes between Phaungpyin Township and Homalin Township began in January, and the fighting intensified in April and May in Mawlai District.
