BAGO DIVISION – Mr. Tun Tun Oo, the Bago Division Minister for Immigration and Human Resources during the NLD government term who had previously surrendered himself to the junta council and signed a letter of guarantee was reported to have been detained and charged by the junta regime.
He was reportedly charged at Paungde Police station with two counts of article 505 (A).
“We don’t know when he was detained. He returned to Paungde on May 21 to attend the funeral of his mother-in-law. We don’t hear much of him as he has been living in Yangon ever since he turned himself in. We only heard that he was detained by Pyay Regional Operation Command,” shared a local.
They continued that there are rumours that the reason for Mr. Tun Tun Oo’s arrest is due to him scolding the administrator for Paungde Township via phone and telling the township immigration officer and staff to join CDM after the coup.
Mr. Tun Tun Oo turned himself in at the Pyay Regional Operation Command in western Bago Division back on December 8 last year after the junta council detained and held his daughter who applied for passport hostage in November. He was then released after signing a letter of guarantee.
He was elected as an MP representing Paungde in 2015 and served on the committee scrutinizing the guarantee, promises and responsibilities of Bago Division Government as well as the mechanical, electrical and transport committee. He was voted to the position of the Minister of Immigration and Human Resources for Bago Division on July 9, 2019 by the Bago Regional Parliament and also won the 2020 election.
