SAGAING DIVISION – Since another group of eleven junta military vessels had ascended along the Chindwin River while recklessly firing with heavy artillery and small weapons into the villages along the river bank including Khun Thar, Thayet Kaing and Nhit Kyun Nhit Sat in Salingyi Township on Saturday (September 2) at around 1:00 p.m., locals had reportedly fled away.
“They (junta troops) recklessly fired like this last time as well. We don’t know where they are heading now. They just arrived at Monywa,” said an official of Anyar Pyit Taing Htaung Lay Myar Team from Salingyi Township.
Though there was no harm to civilian lives, some civilian houses were said to be destroyed in the stated attack.
“We assume they are carrying rations and have quite functioning weapons, even heavy artillery,” one of the People’s Defence Force (PDF) members said.
Similarly, in July, a junta military vessel group, including more than 10 vessels, ascended to upper Sagaing Division by passing through Salingyi, Monywa, Yinmabin, Kani, Mingin and Kalewa Townships.
Said group of vessels has already arrived between Mawlaik and Paungbyin Towns and has been continuing up stream.
Furthermore, as there are two groups of junta military vessels in the Chindwin River currently, PDFs notified the civilians living along the riverbank to be vigilant about security.
