SAGAING DIVISION – Local news sources said that military council troops and Pyu Saw Htee militants killed a shepherd and forcibly seized about 140 sheep in Chaung U township.
Over 70 junta and Pyu Saw Htee terrorists from Kan Gyi Kone Village, a Pyu Saw Htee base in Chaung U Township opened fire and abducted herds of sheep and cattle as ration on September 14 around 2 p.m.
However, the herd of cattle escaped, and the herd of about 140 sheep was seized. In addition, the owner of the herd, Mr. Zaw Htay, who was tending the sheep himself, was killed by the military group, said Mr. Pyan Hlwar, the officer in charge of the Revolutionary Army (CRA) of Chaung U Township.
Local residents said that the local price of each sheep is at least 80,000 kyats, and the value of the stolen herd of sheep is at least 11,200,000 Kyats. Even though CRA went to rescue the shepherd, they were unable to attack because they were outnumbered in weapons and were only about three furlongs away from the junta base.
“We still went to rescue him within the range of firearms. We only had three people, and there were more than 20 armed on their side, so it was impossible to save him. When they took him away, we could hear Mr Zaw Htay screaming and pleading (with the junta forces) to not kill him, explaining that he was a mere shepherd herding his sheep there because there was no pasture,” said Mr. Pyan Hlwar.
The victim, Mr. Zaw Htay, was over 40 year old and a resident of Yagyi Village, Waya Village Tract. He is survived by his wife and a 15-year-old son.
Fifty Two News channel, a propaganda channel of the Junta Council, falsely spread propaganda about the incident that Mr. Zaw Htay, the mursered shepher, was “a member of the PDF, and that a dead body, one hand-made gun and some ammunition were seized in the battle.”
