MYANMAR- K Pay users reported that the junta Council has been blocking K Pay accounts that have frequent transactions and they are suspected of having associations with anti-junta forces.
Starting May 24th, many K Pay accounts have been disabled by Kanbawza Bank. When users complained, the responsible bank staff stated that they are only following the orders of the central bank of Myanmar and they should contact the relevant branches of the central bank if they want their accounts reopened.
“K pay accounts of many friends, including myself, have been closed. K pay centers do not take responsibility. Other users also complain about their accounts being blocked. I could not assess to and currently losing all the money in my K pay account due to unreasonable and irresponsible banking system,” said a resident of Yangon.
Kanbawza Bank announced that the users being banned from their K Pay accounts are under a direct order by the central bank and users should go to the relevant central bank for more inquiries. It is known that they will reopen the accounts if they receive the approval of the Central Bank.
However, K Pay users are concerned about being interrogated and arrested while inquiring why their account is being closed. A large sum of money is on the line in this incident.
“Both my K Pay account and my merchant friend’s K Pay account in Monywa Township have been closed. When I contacted the bank, they replied that they received account closure orders from higher-ups (the central bank),” said a resident from Monywa.
