MYANMAR – On September 5, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz revealed that two of their country’s defense firms had sold advanced technology weapons to the Military Council in violation of the order not to sell arms to Myanmar, which was banned by High Court.
After the military coup in Myanmar in 2021, the Israeli High Court issued an order not to sell weapons, but until 2022, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Elbit Systems sold defense systems to the Myanmar junta council. The report claimed that IAI sold air defense systems to Myanmar, while Elbit Systems also sold air defense weapons and machine guns during the same period.
The Haaretz newspaper specifically alleged that weapons were shipped from Ashdod port in Israel to Yangon port.
