MYANMAR – It was reported that Malaysia’s Foreign Minister urged ASEAN to strongly condemn the actions of the coup military council in a joint statement.
At the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Jakarta, Indonesia on July 12, Malaysia’s Foreign Minister spoke out about the airstrikes and massacres committed by the junta council. Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir urged ASEAN member countries to come together and strongly condemn the junta’s brutal actions through a joint statement during a press conference after the meeting.
Malaysia’s Foreign Minister also mentioned that the reason to condemn every act of the military council is that the crisis in Myanmar is getting worse day by day and also causing a big issue of internal displacement.
During the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the participants reportedly discussed ASEAN countries’ engagement and meetings for peace in Myanmar. However, they agreed on not having informal talks with a single member of ASEAN but aiming for mutual agreement among all members based on the previously agreed five-point consensus.
The Foreign Minister of the junta council was banned from attending the current ASEAN meeting.
