KACHIN STATE – Junta soldiers and police, on the hunt for suspected contacts of the People’s Defence Force (PDF) in Moekaung, are reported to have bulldozed Zinyaw Gas Station and abducted several people.
A resident of Moekaung reported that some of the employees at the gas station located in Phochitkone Ward and Upper Shansu Ward of Moekaung were abducted on September 2.
The abducted employees were taken away with their hands tied in the back and blindfolded while an underage female employee was said to have been released later.
After the attack on a junta vehicle on August 19, junta forces have been making a string of arrests and the resident said that there have been over 100 people arrested but only around 30 have been released.
“There have been inspections and searches. Young people fled town, as they didn’t want to associate with them (junta forces). Only elders are living in town,” said the resident.
According to those who have been released, the searches and arrests are to find supporters of PDF as well as those related to the cases where the PDF attacked junta forces and informers in Moekaung.
Just recently on August 26, Mr. Wa Baw Tan Gun, a man in his forties, arrested for alleged association to the attack on junta vehicle, died at the interrogation center, tortured to death.
Junta forces are said to be still conducting strict searches in Moekaung Town and there have been civilians arbitrarily detained daily.
